At our first preparatory meeting we talked about James Joyce and his novels "A Portrait of the Artist". "Finnegan's Wake" and "Ulysses". We examined how Joyce wrote in an internal monologue using stream of consciousness. We also talked about portmanteau words. Our assignment for the month is:
- Write an internal monologue using stream of consciousness. Any length, use any time limit to write in.
- Create some portmanteau words, if you can.
- Write a description of someone in your family using only as many words as they have lived years. For example, describe your great aunt who is 95, using 95 words. or describe your 1 year old nephew using only one word.
Our Silent Writing sessions will be from 6 until 7 with a short period after to discuss how the writing went.
We will meet in person on the last Monday of the month. If you would like to share some of your writing at that time (5 to 10 pages) - email to Jim (jf.binz@gmail.com) on the Wednesday before our last session.
Maily - keep on writing!
